Before the concept of Made in Sample, Clive has a professional background in interior designs. At a certain point in his career, he found himself immersed in the world of sustainable living, not only rethinking ways to sustain his commercial designs but also to live responsibly. During his self-discovery journey, he came up with an idea to start a social enterprise to fill a need for a system or a model where abandoned materials from the interior design industry could be given a second life, as he thought of the piles of humble but beautiful fabric samples wasted by companies each season. With a vision, he started to rescue samples.
At first, he collected a bunch of sample materials: including fabric, wallpaper, wood, stone, glass and more. He thought that he could move those bags of sample with the help of the van driver, but no… He began to realize that he couldn’t do this on his own, but he did not think of giving up, not even flash of thought.
Half year passed by, Made in Sample was officially launched through Facebook and introduced on other occasions and publicities. Just at one of the pitching event, Clive met Terry. In their conversation, they see endless market opportunities and a beautiful picture that samples can create. Since that night, they talked so much for so long. While their power seems so small, they believe that their hearts have the power to affect another heart.
Ever since, they got on the same train as a team, and they strive to set a good sample(example) for the environment and their community. This commitment to spreading the power of sustainability is how they serve the future and the city they live in today.
